COMPANY HISTORY

Our company was started by William H and Mary Ann Derrick in 1967 in the basement of their rural New Richmond home. In 1990 Bill "retired" to become Chairman of the Board whereupon his sons Bill Jr., Ron, and Tom, and partner Mike Stevens took over active operation of the business. Mary Ann is still active, helping clients with the interior selections for their new homes. In January 2003 the company restructured into Derrick Companies, a family of companies, organized to allow us to better provide the outstanding service to which our clients have become accustomed. The structure of the company may have changed but the team is the same and remains committed to the "Derrick Built" process – providing superior service that meets or exceeds our clients’ expectations.

Tom Derrick, upon graduation from high school, joined the company in 1973 and now serves as the Vice President of Field Operations as well as the President of Remodeling by Derrick, LLC, Derrick Custom Cabinets, LLC and Derrick Construction Services, LLC. He also serves as Safety Director for all companies. Ron joined the company in 1978 after receiving his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He is chief co-manager of Derrick Custom Homes, LLC, the Minnesota residential arm of the company. With the assistance of Bill Sr., he is also responsible for acquisition and development of Derrick’s many beautiful residential developments in the St. Croix Valley area and the Eastern Metro. After achieving a civil engineering and MBA degree and several years of experience with large commercial contractors in the Twin Cities market, Bill Jr. joined the company in 1988 and serves as President of Derrick Companies and President of Derrick Commercial Contracting, LLC. Mike Stevens who has a business degree from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, joined the company in 1975 and serves as President of Derrick Homes, LLC the Wisconsin residential arm of the company and Chief Co-Manager of Derrick Custom Homes, LLC. In addition, four sons of the second generation owners are currently working for Derrick Companies in various office and field capacities.

Derrick Companies prides itself on utilization of the best building practices and materials available today. We maintain state of the art equipment and technology for our employees and promote an atmosphere of continual improvement and company paid training and education all helping us meet or exceed our clients, employees, and owners’ expectations. In addition the emphasis that we place on safety enhances the quality and construction process at Derrick Companies. All these things are derived from the experience of employees, owners, and previous generations. In addition the company is very active in industry associations and community activities as well as sponsoring endowed scholarships for the education of future construction industry leaders.

Derrick Companies and its development affiliates today build in excess of 100 projects annually, performed by nearly 100 employees, in over 20 communities and 2 states within 60 miles of our corporate offices located in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Not bad for a dream that started in 1967 in the kitchen and basement of a local farmhouse, which resulted in a remodeling job and a home built by Bill Sr. and 3 employees that first year. The company is proof that hard work, generations of vision, commitment to employees and communities, along with some good fortune, can produce great impact.

The company’s decisions are made today much as they were when it started. Family members grab a cup of coffee and gather around the table to plan together. The difference today is that the table is in our conference room and not the family kitchen. With an eye to the future the company continues to grow and improve on the foundation that has been laid so well. It is all part of the "Derrick Built" process that helps us in creating exceptional customer experiences since 1967.
